Questions to Consider...

If it's good to ask questions, then why would curiousity kill the cat?

It is sometimes said that asking the right questions are more important than the answers one gets. In 1981, American rock band, The Talking Heads, produced, "Once in a Lifetime," a song that, according to singer David Byrne, was about the unconscious: "We operate half-awake or on autopilot and end up, whatever, with a house and family and job and everything else, and we haven't really stopped to ask ourselves, “How did I get here?” Also, in 1981, American rock band Devo, short for De-evolution, originated from the idea that instead of continuing to evolve, mankind has actually begun to regress, as evidenced by the dysfunction and herd mentality of American society, had released their song, “Modern Life,” which was about us beginning to recognize the shortcomings of our own current modern lifestyle, and our own disillusioned expectations for it.

When we take a historical look back in time through the pages of Holy Scripture we find the wisest King who has ever lived, instructing readers of Proverbs 3:5-6 to not trust in our own selves, but rather acknowledge God in all our ways, and further taught in Proverbs 11:14 that without guidance, a people falls but safety can be found in an abundance of counselors.  And it was his very own father who had long ago taught this former youthful prince where he can find such wise counsel in Psalm 119:24. Please note, tradition teaches that King David used this Psalm to teach his young son Solomon the alphabet—but not just for writing words: he taught him the alphabet to live out a spiritual life.

In Hebrews 4:12 the author reminds us that the Word of God is both living and active in discerning the thoughts and intentions of our hearts and Jesus’ brother James, in James 1:23-24 encourages people to question and act, by reminding people to not foolishly look into the mirror of God’s word and immediately forget the filthful sin that is exposed on the very face of our own immortal souls.

In Luke 2:46-47 we find Jesus as an adolescent, spending three days in a temple making an impression on the teachers there by His astute questions as well as His insightful observations. From this we learn the importance of asking good questions because of the valuable and priceless knowledge and wisdom that is gained from engaging in such an activity. So it is with this in mind that I propose that we as a Christian community consider the below questions:

Do I care more about my current circumstances or about my ultimate final destination?
Zoo Transfer Scene

Do we primarily identify ourselves as Christ’s ambassadors, the salt of the earth and light of the world, employed as harvesters in our Father’s fields or do we rather see ourselves primarily as our profession or role (doctor, momma, lawyer, nurse, truck driver, etc.) who also happens to be a Christian?
What is our profession?

What exactly is the “kingdom of God” and what does it mean for me to be a part of it?
Let us whisper together now….

Am I caught in Satan’s net, fretting over my own hope, dreams, goals and concerns or am I truly living in community with God, in step with His Word along with my fellow adopted brothers and sisters in the faith, as slaves to righteousness, humbly submitting ourselves to worldly authorities, considering others more than myself, as I lovingly share God’s gospel message in hopes of their ultimate salvation?
Just keep swimming….

Am I truly an adopted child of God, reconciling all things to the Father, accumulating real and truly valuable heavenly treasures, or have I deluded myself into accepting a “pyrite” faith, and am simply wasting time and energy on a cheap and worthless counterfeit, cheating myself out of the deeply meaningful and truly abundant life that which Jesus willingly sacrificed himself to provide for me?
Making Christmas...

I pray, that by prayerfully engaging in the above activity, that we each can also be generously blessed by our Gracious Father with both an amazing knowledge and a wisdom substantiated by His Word, that will serve us to appropriately navigate all of life’s challenges and opportunities!!
